An unglazed, fully vitrified, ceramic encaustic square tile that is frost resistant and has a very low porosity. Suitable for both interior and exterior use.
Olde English encaustic tiles are manufactured in very much the same way as they were when Cistercian monks invented the process in the twelfth century. The pattern on genuine encaustic tiles is created by layering different colours of clay, in contrast to cheaper modern copies where the pattern is printed or painted on as part of the surface glaze. This means that our tiles are extremely hard wearing as the pattern will remain even when the tiles became worn down with age and use.
Encaustic tiles can be incorporated in most of our designs and borders either as part of the pattern repeat or as central features or borders. Contact us if you would like some design advice for your project.

Olde English Tiles will last for many years if they are correctly laid and carefully maintained. We strongly recommend that you use a professional tiler to lay your tiles. For more information, see our guide to fixing, sealing and cleaning.
